I made this mobile pictured above in February 2008 and didn't do another until this year with my show at Sally Loo's. 2012 promises to be busy since I have 3 shows in spring, summer and winter, and the one in spring will be mobiles. Am currently working on a few prototypes, do look for updates on my tumblr blog.

M

Marmalo_post

An in-progress logo for a company developing a line of children's products. The challenge was to create an M that could be turned into a plush animal down the road. That hanging curve on top is also significant.

1955-2011

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life,” Jobs said. “Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Another collaboration

With Hannah: think this was from 2007-8, somewhere in there. She and I made little perler rounds from a few of her drawings. Some were more successful than others (love the bunny and frog), and we mounted them all on white lasercut plastic discs.

A collaboration with Hannah

Have not had much time to update my new site  and I just discovered this set of 2009 images from when Hannah and I made 30 clay birds. I made rough egg shapes, hollowed them out a little from underneath to prevent them blowing up in the kiln, and she was in charge of shaping their personalities. They make for a GREAT collection, and were given to one of her grandmothers.

Kizuna Cranes

Crane_unity_345x235
I worked with Handmade For Japan to come up with this crane for the Kizuna Cranes drive. It's a wonderful effort, weaving together a community of donors, each having a public and permanent record of their donation. I personally love that the cranes remain with their donors. When your personal belongings collapse to the point of being able to fit into a suitcase I'd imagine the last thing you'd need rightaway is something that's not essential to daily living, however well-meaning the giver.

Here's another amazing effort, the Photo Rescue Program.

More vinegar labels

Bottle

Can't show the bottle with the final labels yet so I piled them all onto one blank bottle. For a series of vinegar labels for the Danish firm Envision (designer: Sofie Møller)

A break in regular programming

Photo_10

So I'm waiting on Hannah to get done with an appallingly late after-school thing and as I'm fiddling with my laptop in the dressing rooms before a million mirrors I look up and wow the lighting in here is GREAT. I pop out PhotoBooth to test it, and yes, wow, the lighting in here is GREAT. So, from the girls dressing room at the Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo: Hey, everybody!

Working on this, different style. Think the book title and author name will be in teeny tiny type. Maybe...
